As I understand it, the court ruled to the effect that home schooling by some parents was tantemount to no schooling at all, which is child abuse.
You can't simply keep your children at home and call it 'home schooling'. Nor can you subject them to an idiosyncratic version of an 'education'. Nor can you teach them if you yourself do not understand the material being taught.
It is an error to uncritically respond against the court's ruling.

Hi Stephen,
One solution is to require that homeschooled children take a test every semester (or year) that verifies that they're tracking to state standards.
Cheers,
Graham

I think it is not a right step to take. I am a home schooled and I am very proud of it.
Even though my parents both have teaching credentials, I am sure that every parent has the right to give his/her child the kind of education they want.

Home schooling gives a far more intense learning arena. And as far as homeschooling and tests, I took my daughter out of public school because teaching for the test. Thats all schools teach now. They do not teach how to learn on your own. They teach how to take tests. A real test would be to test the teachers. Hook their wages to the percentage of passing students. That would be a laugh.
No test can discover how much learning is going on. How much information could you learn about Lincoln? People have spent lifetimes. Yet what is the proper amount to study to pass the test? That is pure Bull. If the test is to be fair then change it every year and don't allow teachersto get lazy and teach to it'

"It is an error to uncritically respond against the court's ruling."
This is a scary responce.
The US was formed by responding to a courts ruling. Change is not made by laying down. If the courts need to law to be plainer then change the way the law reads.
We have rights in this country like Liberty,Truth Justice. What public school teacher allows students even these basic rights?
None that I know.
