Man from Earth: My kind of Movie

The Man from Earth looks like my kind of movie. It's shot entirely in a living room and revolves around a man who reveals to his colleagues that he has lived on Earth for the past 14,000 years. The rest of the movie is about how his colleagues try and disprove his confession via a question and answer session.

Apparently it's very cleverly done and has a twist at the end. I just ordered the movie and will follow up with another blog entry once I've watched it.

Beowulf IMAX 3D

I just got back from watching the IMAX/3D version of Beowulf and thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot, which is based on a traditional English epic poem, has several interesting twists and turns.

The movie is animated and uses body captures of famous stars such as Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie. The 3D effect was subtle and added to the overall feel of the movie.

And the ending was just perfect.

The Last Mimzy

I just watched a lovely science fiction movie called The Last Mimzy. It's set in the present, and starts when a couple of children find a strange object on the beach. When they open it up, they find some rocks, a crystal, and a stuffed rabbit. As the movie progresses, the purpose of the various objects is revealed. Needless to say, the rabbit is no ordinary rabbit. I highly recommend this movie.

Nice blog mention of Destiny

This blog post made a nice mention of Destiny, calling it "the science fiction movie yet to made".

If you are a futurist who loves to think about where is science and the rest of humanity going, this movie will help you ride your imaginations. Postcards from the Future

Postcards from the Future is an indie movie that tells the story of lunar adventure in a novel way; as a series of video postcards. The trailer looks really good. I would love see my own Destiny video turned into an indie movie!

Destiny Movie, Take II

Here's the next version of Destiny, my science-fiction movie about the future of humanity. This version has voice-over and background music for all 22 scenes, so it's essentially complete:

I'll make some additional tweaks based on feedback, then add it to the http://destiny-movie.com site and start promoting it. One issue I found is that YouTube limits videos to 10 minutes long, and Destiny is 17 minutes long. So either I need to figure out a way to trim the length by 40% or stick with hosting it on MS SoapBox. Any opinions?

Destiny Movie Prototype

I just spent a couple of hours playing around with Microsoft Photo Story, trying my hand at creating a short prototype video for my Destiny story.

Here is a rough video of the first 3 scenes (there are 22 in all):

Update: I just posted a second version of the video that incorporates some early feedback. I added some title pages and made the transitions smooth cross-fades.

Destiny: A Story about the Future of Humanity

The story and graphics for my Destiny movie idea is now live at http://www.destiny-movie.com.

Destiny is a science fiction story about the future of humanity. It's an epic, similar in breadth and scope to 2001: A Space Odyssey. If you like what you see, please leave a comment on my blog and Digg it.

The next step is to create a YouTube video based on the Destiny graphics, with a voiceover and soundtrack. I'm looking forward to creating the video, and am considering writing the soundtrack if time permits.

Destiny: Movie PitchBook

The final artwork for my Destiny movie pitchbook was completed yesterday. Next week I will start the process of getting it front of movie producers for some early feedback. Should be interesting!
