Innovative Restroom Door

I recently visited Dallas and dined at its beautiful new Ritz Carlton restaurant. One thing I noticed was its innovative restroom design.

The doors are made of frosted glass and when a door is locked, a large red stop sign is displayed in the glass. The sign is visible from the inside and the outside of the restroom, and didn't seem to be projected onto the door. I'm curious how this is done.

Here's a picture I took from the outside of the restroom using my iPhone:

Penn and Teller: Bullshit!

The Penn and Teller Bullshit series is one of the best set of shows I've ever seen. Each episode targets a different topic which the comedy duo proceeds to debunk, including the war on drugs, gun control and family values.

It's refreshing to watch smart, insightful, humorous, zero-bullshit presentations on each of these controversial issues. It's also interesting to note that the show was nominated for three Emmys.

You can watch all the episodes on YouTube; here's a link to the entire series.

Guinness Evolution Ad

Since I've been posting recently about the topic of evolution, I found this TV ad for Guinness particularly hilarious.

Benny Hill

When I was a kid in the UK, I used to watch Benny Hill on TV. When I came to the US, I was surprised to learn how popular it was with many Americans, thanks to late night reruns on various cable channels. I'm watching it right now on BBC America, and have to say that it remains pretty darn hilarious.

Benny Hill revered Charlie Chapin and devoted his life to comedy. He never owned a house or car, never married, was rejected by the two women he proposed to, and sadly died alone while watching TV at the age of 68. He left behind an estate worth about 10 million pounds.

Benny Hill was a truly gifted comedian, and if you haven't seen one of his shows for a while, I recommend that you treat yourself to another viewing. It's on at 7pm and 11pm EST during weekdays.

The book Funny, Peculiar chronicles his life story.

Sex and the City Trivia Question

OK, here's a tricky Sex and the City trivia question: did Mr. Big ever read Carrie's book?

Sex and the City: More Trivia

If you enjoy Sex and the City trivia questions, you'll enjoy this quiz hosted by Virgin.net. My rating was: "Well, you've probably seen every episode - twice. You certainly do know your sex from your city, that's for sure and there's no fooling you with any of it. From character names to plotlines and events, you're pretty much on the ball when it comes to these East Coast girls and their lives." How did you fare?

AliG at Harvard

If you enjoy AliG, the contraversial UK comic, then you'll get a kick out of the transcript of his Harvard address. I wanted to post some fun quotes from the speech that weren't too rude, but couldn't find any!

Sex and the City Trivia Question

I finally received the DVDs for part 2 of the 6th season of Sex and the City. Last night, I watched the entire last 8 episodes and they were great. The DVD set also includes three alternative endings, which I won't disclose here. IMHO, the ending that was chosen was the best and the most believable. In my heart of hearts, I think that Big finally realized that Carrie was the one, and that they lived happily ever after. Anyhow, the Sex and the City trivia question that I came up with is this: what is the last word that Carrie says at the end of the series? I will be impressed by anyone who gets the correct answer!

BBC America

I don't watch much TV, but when I do, my favorite cable channel is BBC America. If you get the urge to watch some jolly good British TV, I highly recommend Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, Kumars at No. 42, and Coupling. None of these programs really has any equivalent in America; this is leading-edge UK entertainment!

Destiny

  • Destiny is my science fiction movie about the future of humanity. It's an epic, similar in breadth and scope to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
