I just finished reading a coffee-table-style book called Disruptive Pattern Materials, which provides a comprehensive and beautifully illustrated view of camouflage. Although camouflage is usually associated with the military, this book addresses all angles on the theme, including its use in nature, fashion, and hunting. Fascinating and thought-provoking.
