According to this article, Arizona is contemplating spending $1.1 billion over the next four years on a comprehensive new eLearning system in which classroom work would be replaced by software programs and digital media. The system would include a laptop for every one of Arizona's 46,000 teachers, programs for creating lesson plans, databases to share education-related assets, and an institute for training teachers to use the system. Apparently there is impressive bipartisan support for the program.
