I used to be the proud owner of a Lotus Esprit S4S, so I thought I'd write a few notes about my experience with what I consider to be a classic sports car.
The Esprit S4S is a fast car; 0-60 in about 4.7 seconds. And when you go around a corner, it feels as if the car is on rails; it doesn't lean at all!
For the first six years, I had no trouble with the car. But in the last couple of years, I spent around $20,000 on fairly basic repairs; it was the labor costs that killed me. So in the end, I decided to upgrade to a Mercedes SL-55 which is a hardtop convertible with similar acceleration to the Lotus but nowhere near the same handling.
Even when I traded in my Esprit, it took my breath way. It's a truly beautiful exotic that I miss to this day. But it was just too expensive to maintain. Come to think of it, I have an ex-girlfriend that falls into the same category...
