Scott Farquhar

This system is used to elect state and federal members of parliament in Australia.

It is a must fairer system than first pass the post. However, it means that the 'preference vote' (parties often hand out 'how to vote' cards, which list their party first, then a secondary party, etc) becomes important.

This is good and bad, depending on your perspective. I means that minority views may get over-represented by a majority party that is trying for preference votes.

  • Destiny is my science fiction movie about the future of humanity. It's an epic, similar in breadth and scope to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
