I was heartened to read about the Scientists and Engineers for America organization, whose bill of rights promotes concepts like "Federal policy shall be made using the best available science and analysis both from within the government and from the rest of society" and "The federal government shall never intentionally publish false or misleading scientific information nor post such material on federal websites".
I've read enough crap from the federal government to believe that organizations like this are badly needed. In many respects, it's the scientists and engineers that have helped the US amass its wealth and power over the last hundred years; it would be great if they could also help steer it back to a path based on rigorous reasoning.
