I was very proud to officially become a card-carrying member of the American Civil Liberties Union this week. In a nutshell, the ACLU stands for the values that America was initially founded upon and that have unfortunately eroded over the years. Thank goodness that there's still an independent organization that protects citizens against violations of the constitution.
Interesting. I donate to the ACLU for the reasons you state, even though it is generally considered liberal, and I don't consider myself liberal.

Hi Chris,
As far as I can tell, the original US government and constitution was pretty much Llibertarian in nature - small government, personal responsibility, minimal involvement in foreign wars, low taxes. Neither the Republican nor the Democratic parties stand for these principles nowadays.
Cheers,
Graham

Totally agree. I don't want to brand myself a liberatarian, but my personal philosophy is starting align that way. Maybe that's what happens when you live in NV too long. I think the ACLU can fit in that line of thinking.

IMHO the The Institute for Justice is closer to libertarian thinking than is the ACLU. Check it out.
