Peter Yared

How many New Yorkers were struck by lightning in 2001? :)

Graham Glass

Heh, surely you are jesting Peter!

He of course refers to probabilities evened out over the US population and over thc course of years.

Graham,

How is it exactly you know that the JFK plot was overblown?

Is it because they didn't have the means yet, even though they were looking to outsource the work?

I mean, we've all seen the wife or husband on TV talking to an undercover cop, trying to get them to kill their spouse. Is that an overblown plot? Because that's where this plot was. One of them was leaving the country to try and get a terror organization to do the dirty work for them.

Graham Glass

Hi MavsFan,

Everything I've read about the plot indicates that it was amateurish, not thought out at all, fundamentally flawed in its assumptions, and barely in the planning phases.

There's a big difference between a bunch of idiots planning something over some drinks and a serious terrorist plot.

Cheers,
Graham

Well sir, I don't think it was a simple as that. They were attempting to maximize their attack. One of them was an engineer. And a couple of idiots planning something over drinks is a far cry over some guys about to jump overseas looking for a group with experience to actually pull it off.

Also, the effectiveness of an attack is not necessarily indicative of its seriousness. The first AQ attack on the trade centers was not particularly effective. But were they serious?

Graham Glass

Hi MavsFan,

Here's one article I read on it, with quoted sources:

Apparently even the NY times tried to keep it low key, but of course it soon became front news everywhere.

Graham

Unless the pipes didn't have fuel and them but only fumes. Then we'd see a boom.

More open source info for you as well sir:

Destiny

  • Destiny is my science fiction movie about the future of humanity. It's an epic, similar in breadth and scope to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
