Code stats update: EDU 2.0, Moodle, Sakai

About 3 months ago I compared the lines of code in the edu 2.0, Moodle and Sakai code bases. Since then, we've added a ton of new features to edu 2.0, and interestingly enough, the lines of code have remained almost the same:

31,000 -> 32,000 lines of code (+1%)

594 -> 606 classes (+1%) 

4317 -> 4286 methods (+1%)

7 -> 7 methods per class on average (+0%)

5 -> 5 lines of code per method on average (+0%) 

I think the reason for such a small increase is that we tend to spend quite a bit of time re-factoring our code and database schema. My experience is that this almost always pays dividends, even though it requires massive weekend marathon hacking sessions to achieve. And since one of my companies, edu20.net, will be licensing the source code for our platform, it's important to get the architecture clean.

As far as I can tell, the source code base for edu20.org is still only 2% of the size of the Moodle source code base, which makes me very happy.

The moodle source code is a pig. Shoot me if I ever have to use it again :)
