Here's my theory about why we Sleep and Dream. I blogged it many years ago but my theory has evolved since then so here's the latest version. The nice thing about my theory is that things like dreams and brain waves are emergent side-effects of basic metabolic strategies of individual neurons.
I like the thinking, but don' t buy it completely .. It did lead me to other insights, though .. namely the importance of sleep

Hi Bart,
What aspects of the theory didn't you agree with?
Cheers,

Interesting theory, gotta say that since i'm not a neurologist I can't sign all this but it sounds very logical. One question though: When you say that you believe that it's ALL that there is to it do you really feel like there isn't anything else involved? I mean that could be the primary meaning but I've heard about muscle relaxation and there are parts of brain that never go to sleep. for example breathing, heart beat. if you stop those its gonna be a loooong nap if you know what i mean
