In this part I describe an everyday scenario involving two people, Bill and Sally.
The goal is simply to provide an interaction involving empathy that I will then explain in part 3.
In the scenario, Bill is in love with Sally.
Bill is talking with Sally when she accidentally treads on a nail. She cries out in pain.
Almost immediately, Bill feels bad and tries to help. When he notices the nail sticking out of her foot, he bends down and pulls it out.
When he pulls it out, he hears Sally sign in relief. He smiles, knowing that his loved one is no longer in pain.
The scenario is simple. The question is, what's going on inside the brains of Bill and Sally?
